Usually these victims have low self-esteem, mistrust, features of anxiety, depression, behavioral problems and emotional instability and exhibit abnormal reactions to normal and neutral circumstances and objects.
After initial assessment, special focus was on the emotional stability and trust building; counseling sessions were done on regular basis with emphasis on problem identification and finding the solution to the identified problem.

Training conducted by SACH
SACH-Struggle for Change has conducted different trainings with the following professionals from different fields. The purposes to conduct these trainings were to raise awareness on the issue of torture and its effects.
- Parliamentarians
- Lawyers
- Doctors
- Media
- Police officials
Police Trainings:
The police is an important stakeholder in every programme of SACH whether it is to eliminate all forms of traumatic human rights abuses or provide protection to victims and survivors. Over years SACH’s credibility with the police was established and the police repeatedly expressed and viewed SACH as a reliable organization which could deliver. Thus, a stage was reached when the mutual trust was strengthened, the case handling could be assisted and a referral system and network was developed.
SACH started structured and formal training through its different projects as of 1994. Furthermore, based on SACH’s support the Human Rights cell was strengthened. Additionally, high level police officials called on SACH’s expertise and assistance to deal with sensitive cases. SACH always promptly responded to their request and acted positively.
Thus, the police have a crucial role in bringing change. They can perform only if their knowledge base is enhanced. The key stone of human rights education of the police is that the education shall not only aim at producing trained professional workers but inculcating in them a sense of higher purpose. Human rights education is aimed at providing the police with abilities to accomplish and produce societal changes. This training has been acknowledged and has been seen as a way to empower police to increase their capacity of understanding and addressing the issue of torture with a right based approach. The aim is to have a more sensitized police force. This sensitivity can be achieved partly through large-scale educational programs and dissemination of knowledge and skills.
Training with police officials in the area of human rights and behavior change is an on going program of SACH and these trainings are conducted in Rawalpindi region, Islamabad capital territory, Haripur region, Azad Kashmir region. SACH under this training program is focusing on the junior officers who are directly interacting with victims and accused persons. They closely interact with the public on a daily basis and at all times. These young officers are more open to learning and positive change unlike the old police officials whose mind set is based on old practices. The newly recruits are more prone to bringing positive changes
